Our goal is to help our young men or women move on to college, to the next level of professional and minor league sports (College level, NFL,NBA, major and minor league baseball Arena, or European) or just to continue playing the great game of football.
OK. I know I'm gonna get bombed for this but I don't care. I can always blame it on a slow 'real sports' time. As uncool as it is amongst guys to talk about chick sports I gotta go there. Feel free to ask me to leave my Man Card at check out, expect me to have umbrellas in my drinks and to be subscribing to some metrosexual magazine. Is metrosexual still a cool term? I really couldn't tell you because the only umbrella I use is attached to my golf bag, I don't drink wine and 50% of the time my clothes probably don't match.
But I am a Fever fan.
These girls get it. Can they compete with guys at the professional level? Nope. Can they run our respective anatomy in the dirt in 5v5. Better bet it. Suck it up boys; they get paid for playing sports and we can't fricken stand it. And they're getting better because they are PROFESSIONALS.
Catchings - Went from a 78% FT shooter to a 86%. From 3 she's 7% better!
Douglas - Went from a 77% FT shooter to a 86%. From 3 she's 7% better.
If girls are frail, small, weak and can't cut it then why can they do what Shackopolis can't?...at the PROFESSIONAL level.
Show me one NBA player that has worked his game hard enough over a 5 year period to improve at that length. Here's a hint......save your time.
This isn't about boys being better than girls. This is about Indianapolis having a great franchise that is successful, fun to watch.....and they get it!
Push yourself out of the recliner, turn off the mediocre baseball on TV which you couldn't see anyway if the bottom of your Cheetos bags wasn't transparent and get your ass to a Fever game to see Pros that know how to be Pros.
This past weekend my brother and I attended the final round of the US Senior Open at Crooked Stick which was a very good time. Watching these "old" guys put up such low numbers was amazing, especially seeing Loren Roberts and Fred Funk appear to be throwing darts on each green near the hole. Towards the end of the day while sitting on the hillside near the 18th green watching the final 4 twosomes wrap up their rounds an idea popped into my. What if more sports had Senior/Champion leagues? (Now before you think I am completely out of my gourd I want to say that this idea did come to me after 10 hours of walking around a golf course and spending $9.50 for a turkey club wrap with a lemonade for lunch.)
I was wondering what it would be like to see players from my youth still competing. I would love to see some classic match-ups that we use to enjoy seeing. This idea would definitely work best with the sports of basketball and tennis, but I was thinking of some other sports as well. Take baseball for instance. Just as the Yankees have their old timers game each year what if there was an old timers league. Imagine old school showdowns like Mike Schmidt vs. Goose Gossage. It would also add some humor because these guys are older with bigger guts and greyer hair. I do believe that this scenario does work much better with basketball and tennis. With basketball you can have guys from the 90s who are just a few years past their prime. In this thinking you can also have the second tier players fill rosters and not just the stars. For example Kevin Willis just played for the Spurs just a year and a half ago. He would be a perfect fit for a team in this league. Plus lets face it who wouldn't want to see showdowns like Kevin Johnson vs Scott Skiles or local legend Reggie Miller vs Mitch Richmond.
Tennis does have the World Team Tennis league in which guys like Pete Sampras and John McEnroe have played. Would it not be epic to see Sampras vs Roger Federer five years down the road. We could settle the greatest of all time debate albeit in 2015.
The one sport I do not see this working out is football. This sport is so rough and tough that I just do not see player's bodies lasting to play past their prime. The beatings that they take would just not allow them to compete. Plus I think the only offense we would see in this league would be a boring three yards and a cloud of dust. I would guess there would not be too much run and shoot going on.
Let me know what you think and perhaps collectively we could get the ball rolling on this idea. Plus you know we could get fantastic sponsors such as Polygrip or Depends.
Brownsburg High School catcher Tucker Barnhart was selected as the 2009 Indiana Mr. Baseball in the closest vote in the award's 18-year history, according to a news release from Hoosier Diamond, the magazine that sponsors the award.
State high school coaches gave Barnhart a 12-vote edge over Southport's Cameron Perkins. Barnhart hit .369 with eight doubles, six home runs and 25 RBIs for the Bulldogs this season. He was a 10th-round draft pick of the Cincinnati Reds. Advertisement
"I'm thrilled," Barnhart said. "It's been a dream of mine ever since I (started) high school, to be Mr. Baseball. You hear the names (of former Mr. Baseballs) -- guys that you hear about and you've seen play and played against -- it's an honor to be associated with that group of players.
"It's an unbelievable cap to the year."
Andrean's Adam Norton, Kyle Kramp from Westfield, Anderson's Nolan Early and Jake Wood of Noblesville were also among the top players in receiving votes.

When are the Cubs going to turn things around this season? They are struggling to score runs and are sitting at .500 half way through the season. They look nothing like the team that won 97 games last year which lead to a second consecutive division title. Is this a case of a team that has yet to hit its stride or of one that is just a mediocre club?
I right now tend to believe that this is just a team that is struggling offensively. The starting pitching has been very solid and other than a few rough outings the bullpen has been decent. Marmol and Gregg are very nerve racking to watch but general have been adequate.
Back to the offense, I just do not see where the runs went. They led the league in runs scored last year, but are just 15th so far through this season. Other than Derrek Lee being hot right now plus Ryan Theriot's consistency they have no one else producing. Alfonso Soriano looks like he has gotten old fast while Milton Bradley looks lost and uncomfortable at the plate. Kosuke Fukudome has shown some signs of promise of late although he has fallen after a great start just as he did a year ago.
The thing that has become very apparent is that Jim Hendry and Lou Pinnella are going to stick with their high priced sluggers instead of playing the hot hand. With the local kid Jake Fox getting some playing time and hitting extremely well plus other young Cubs such as Micah Hoffpauir and Andres Blanco producing when getting time it stands to reason that they should get a shot. You always hear that teams are going to play with the guys that produce but at this point the Cubs have not done that. They are sticking to their guns and hoping the sluggers they have can break out of this slump.
There is still a lot of baseball to be played so perhaps they will turn it around. The positive for Chicago is that they are only 3.5 games out at this point. No one in their division has run away from them which means it would only take them a hot two week run to be back on top. This is one of the beauties of baseball is that it is a marathon and not a sprint. Let us see how things will unfold.
....to make it a sport? Or does it?
Football, baseball, basketball - beyond any doubt a sport.
Badmitton has birdies but no balls.
Bowling has balls but it still seems to be missing something. Tetherball? It has balls but seriously.
How about synchronized swimming? It's a frickin' Olympic event but are we sure it's really a sport?
Here's where I'm headed. There were 6494 participants at the Rio in Las Vegas last Friday getting ready for WSOP event #57, otherwise known as the World Championship for Texas Hold'em.
Success in this 12 day event necessitates:
skill, endurance, preparation, patience, proper coaching and great timing. Sounds like a lot of sports, huh?
I'm not ready to suggest that professional poker be elevated to Olympic status. But I will say I have more respect for the people that make the final table at this event than I do for the US rhythmic gymnastics team.
Here's a great site to follow the WSOP action.
